VGC estimates consoles in consumer hands.Sony reported 70 million shipped.So there are 1.68 million PS3s in stores / warehouses all over the world. That is a reasonable number considering we are entering the craziest time of the year. There is a chance that there will be close to 1 million PS3s sold in one week this time next month. So 1.7 million consoles in stores all over the world is not that much, when you think about it.For example MS reported more than 70 million consoles shipped end of september. 6 weeks later VGC has it at70 million.
